Giving back this festive season

As the end of the year approaches, so too does a time to reflect, spend time with your loved ones, and give back to those in need. At TSA, we support the LIV initiative, because weʼre all for family, which is exactly what LIV gives to orphans and vulnerable children – a family.

LIV, or Lungisisa Indlela Village, is an amazing charity initiative that was founded by Gregʼs father, Tich Smith, and his wife, Joan. LIV places vulnerable, parentless children into a family environment where they receive unconditional love, spiritual discipleship, care, nurturing and an education. LIV aims to raise the next generation of leaders in our nation, inspired by their mission to rescue a child, restore a life, raise a leader and release a star.

Raising the future leaders of tomorrow

The first LIV Village was officially opened on the 4th of December 2011 in Cottonlands, near Verulam, by the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Dr. Zweli Mkhize and the First Lady of KwaZulu-Natal, Dr. May Mashego-Mkhize. To date, the first 16 homes have been completed, and each household already has their mothers in residence, giving love and guidance to the children. The LIV School is also now open and starting to provide the first group of children with an education.

Nelson Mandela once said: “There can be no keener revelation of a societyʼs soul than the way in which it treats its children.”

At TSA, we really believe this, and believe in LIVʼs vision of creating villages across the country in order to support and raise the future leaders of tomorrow. It takes many people to make a difference though, and LIV welcomes sponsorships and donations from individuals, businesses, governments and church groups.

With this in mind, TSA stepped in to sponsor a house (coincidentally an orange house!) and so we will be actively involved with Dudu (our house mother) and children as they start to turn their house into a home. Not only will we be sponsoring them financially, but we also plan to get involved with them as a family – weʼre looking forward to our TSA Christmas this year on Sunday 11 December, spending the day with our house family and the broader LIV community.

Get involved

At TSA, we support LIVʼs activities, not only at Christmas, but all year round, and there are many ways that people can get involved.

LIV has a goal to become a sustainable village through farming and enterprise development projects, and there are a couple of business models already in place to create revenue and jobs – those being LIV Flowers and LIV Eggs. LIV Flowers focusses on producing and selling flowers, while LIV Eggs helps manufacture and sell eggs, both to local markets.

Other sponsorship options include sponsoring a child, a household, a cluster of eight houses, a teacher or social worker, one of the houseʼs solar systems, or even building one of the houses!

This festive season, we urge you to consider making a difference to those less fortunate than yourself. As we all take time off to spend with our loved ones, itʼs important to remember those without families, and non-profits like LIV who are working hard to create families for the children who need them most.
