Definition:

The Trauma Benefit pays out a lump sum to the member should the member survive a covered traumatic event for 7 days.

This is a standalone benefit.

Options available:

Standard Cover – A claim is payable only once in the event of a traumatic illness.

Comprehensive Cover – Once an amount has been paid to a member owing to a traumatic illness, a benefit remains payable:

  • In the event of a traumatic illness of which the cause is totally unrelated to the previous claim for which a benefit has already been paid;
  • In the case of Angioplasty, provided that claims are limited to two; and Arrhythmia;
  • In the event of a traumatic illness involving any one organ, system or body part, or related group of organs, systems or body parts which is related to a traumatic illness for which less than 100% has already been paid (such a benefit is reduced by all amounts that have already been paid).

Waiting period:

A waiting period of 7 days will apply immediately following the date on which the traumatic illness was diagnosed. Should a member die before the end of the waiting period, no trauma benefit will be payable.
