Sanlam Funeral Aid Benefit and Scales

Definition

The Funeral Aid Benefit pays out a lump sum in the event of death of a member, qualifying spouse or qualifying child to assist with Funeral costs.

Family cover is given in units, one unit is equal to the following:

Main Member: R 1000

Qualifying Spouse: R 1000

Qualifying child aged 14 and over: R 1000

Qualifying child aged 6 to under 14: R 500

Qualifying child younger than age 6 or a still-born child: R 250

A minimum of five and maximum of forty five units are available, in increments of five.

The maximum age for a qualifying child is under the age of 21 years; or if the child is 21 years or older, but under the age of 26 years, such child is a full-time registered student at an educational institution; or if the child is incapacitated by a physical or mental infirmity from maintaining himself/herself, such incapacity commenced when the child was either under the age of 21 years or under the age of 26 years while a full-time student at an educational institution.

There is no limit to the number of qualifying spouses or children.

Sanlam offers a repatriation benefit free of charge which provides transportation of the deceased to the funeral home closest to the place of burial in South Africa, transport is available from anywhere in South Africa and a SADC region.
