Extended Family Funeral Benefit

The Funeral Benefit pays out a lump sum in the event of the death of the member, spouse, children or extended family member, whilst the member is employed. The purpose of this benefit is to provide cover to assist with the funeral costs.

Capital Alliance:

Provides cover for any relative who is financially dependent on the principal member. Covers up to 4 parents including parents-in-law and 4 other family members.
• A 6 month waiting period applies from date of receipt of the first month’s premium for claims arising due to natural causes.
• Maximum entry age of 75 and extended family members only covered in RSA.

Sanlam:

Provides cover for the legal father or mother of insured or spouse of such a person, or the legal father or mother of a qualifying spouse or an additional spouse of the insured can be covered.
• A 6 month waiting period will apply in respect of an extended family member who dies as a result of natural causes.
• Maximum entry age of 75 and extended family members only covered in RSA.

Hollard:

Provides cover for the parent of the main member and/or spouse where the main member and/or spouse is a natural child, a stepchild, a legally fostered child or an adopted child of the parent. Up to 4 parents can be covered.
• A 6 month waiting period will apply.
• Maximum entry age of 74, and must be a South African citizen residing within the SADC region or have a work permit for South Africa.

Old Mutual:

Old Mutual do not offer extended family funeral benefits.
