Pre-Existing Conditions

As with any product you sign up for it’s always critical to read the small print but this can be quite overwhelming.

The TSA Cost Summary, provided at quote stage, summarises certain elements of the quotes but should always be read together with the quote documents, including the T&C’s of the insurers.

Pre-existing conditions and exclusions on specific benefits may apply to new schemes. These may also apply if a benefit structure is changed on an existing scheme and this is something worth communicating to manage expectations.

A member with a medical condition may not immediately qualify for a new benefit, as pre-existing health condition exclusions apply from the date of the benefit change.

Generally, when considering pre-existing conditions, a trauma claim will be assessed from the date of first diagnosis whereas a disability claim will be assessed from the last date of active service. Also with some insurers the size of the group influences the pre-existing period enforced, so remember to take note of the terms and conditions in this regard when considering a benefit change.
